We are pleased to share the findings of our recent seminar, titled «The Role of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence in the Issue of Protecting Women’s Rights.» The seminar was held in Latvia, Riga, 24-25.02.2023, and brought together experts and stakeholders from across the globe to discuss this pressing issue. It was organised in n the field of Youth Participation project \u201cYou are not alone\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of the project is to became familiar with the notion of protecting women’s rights under the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention)
The aim of the seminar is to share the experience with specialists from Latvia, Cyprus and Ukraine about the topic.
To promote non-violent lifestyle and learn how to prevent violence, or to support women survivors of violence, help to safeguard women\u2019s human rights, promote physical and mental health and well-being for women throughout their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the seminar, we explored the impact of the Council of Europe Convention, also known as the Istanbul Convention, on women’s rights and the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence. We examined its framework and legal instruments and discussed ways to strengthen its implementation and effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar featured a variety of speakers and panel discussions, including legal experts, scholars, activists, and survivors of violence. Participants engaged in lively discussions and shared their experiences and perspectives on the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One key highlight of the seminar was the presentation of statistics on the prevalence and impact of violence against women and domestic violence. These statistics were based on global data and highlighted the devastating consequences of these crimes on individuals, families, and societies. The statistics also underscored the urgent need to take action to protect women’s rights and combat violence against women and domestic violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another key takeaway from the seminar was the importance of a holistic approach to addressing the issue. Speakers emphasized the need to go beyond legal frameworks and focus on cultural and societal changes to combat violence against women and domestic violence. This includes raising awareness, promoting gender equality, and empowering women and girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, the seminar was a valuable opportunity to discuss the critical issue of protecting women’s rights and preventing violence against women and domestic violence. The statistics and insights shared by experts and stakeholders underscore the importance of continued efforts to strengthen the Istanbul Convention’s implementation and promote a culture of non-violence and gender equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
