Society and Art: A Step forward to Each Other

How can the community help young artists start to realize their ideas?
A capital of Cyprus Nicosia has found a way to support the ideas of young artists while reducing empty shop windows in the city center.

As well as in Riga, many stores are empty and unable to find tenants due to high rent. The Municipality of Nicosia has started AGORA project: they agreed with the owners of these stores and has leased all these premises for a symbolic rent and tax. And then the Nicosia Municipality offered young artists to start their own pop-up projects in these spaces for free and develop their ideas within 3-6 months.

We think this idea would be useful also in the center of Riga!
The talk on art and society with the mayor of Nicosia took place in the framework of the “Net Art for Tolerance” youth exchange organized by the Cultural Society Alternative Reality in Cyprus with the support of the Erasmus + program.

The project Net Art For Tolerant was financed with the support of European Commission’s “Erasmus+: Youth in Action” administered in Latvia by the Agency for International Programs for Youth.
