Erasmus+ Project “Juggling Diversity” – Hobby Circus Unites Youth

The Erasmus+ youth exchange “Juggling Diversity” is a significant youth education and cooperation project that took place in Vecružina, Latvia, from May 31 to June 9, 2024. The project’s goal was to foster intercultural understanding and cooperation among youth from various European countries by using hobby circus as a unique educational tool to engage and integrate participants into active social and democratic life.

The event brought together 33 young people aged 16-25 from Latvia, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Germany, Hungary, and Cyprus. These young people gathered to learn not only circus skills but also mutual understanding and respect among different cultures.

Vecružina, with its picturesque nature and welcoming atmosphere, was the ideal location for this project. Additionally, the project included youth from the local Tiskādu orphanage, adding extra social and emotional value to this event. One of the residents, seventeen-year-old Andrejs Paramonovs, actively participated in the “Juggling Diversity” activities and gained the opportunity to join the next Erasmus+ project. Currently, from July 5, he is in Cyprus with the “Alternative Reality” team for the youth exchange SKILLS UP.

Throughout the project, participants engaged in various activities every day, learning not only circus arts but also intercultural communication skills. The youth learned juggling, tightrope walking, acrobatic tricks, and much more. These activities were designed to promote understanding, tolerance, and respect among participants. Additionally, the project included discussions on the importance and significance of the European Parliament elections, the functions of EU institutions, and principles of democracy.

Participants shared their impressions of the project. One participant from Latvia said: “This project opened my eyes to how beautiful it is to live in diversity. I gained new skills and friends who will stay in my heart forever.” A participant from Germany stated: “Juggling Diversity gave me the opportunity not only to learn juggling but also to understand how important it is to be open and accepting of others.”

The project culminated on June 7 with a final performance at the open-air festival in Rēzekne. This show demonstrated everything the youth had learned and achieved together over the week. Festival attendees were thrilled with the performance, which showcased the talents and collective efforts of the young participants.

The Erasmus+ project “Juggling Diversity” had a significant impact on participants, promoting their personal and professional growth. The project also enhanced mutual understanding and respect, strengthening the bonds of friendship among young people from different countries. Erasmus+ projects offer young people the opportunity to travel across Europe and other countries for free, learn English and other useful skills, broaden their horizons, and change their lives. We are delighted for every young person we can help open up this vast and colorful world. We hope this helps young people find their place in society and discover numerous opportunities for self-realization and fulfilling their dreams.
