Waste? Or new possibilities!
With global apparel production doubling over the past 15 years, CO2 emissions from the textile industry are higher than those of the shipping and international travel industries combined.
People started buying more clothes and storing less. For example, in Europe, the average number of wears per piece of clothing has fallen from 200 times in 2000 to 160 times in 2015. When washed, items made of polyester and nylon release tiny fibers that pollute sewage and ultimately the oceans.
In our daily life we see how much overconsumption is around us, but usable items, clothes and other things just getting throwed away without any reason. Meanwhile these items and things could be used in another, differnet, creative way for a very long time.
We feel deep need to get more knowledges about possibilities to recycle and upcycle different items and home stuff, to get things a secnd chance to live, and to minimize a pollution on Earth. We also want to give more people understanding about more reponsible attention to our surroundings and environment, about non-acceptable pollution and possibilities to improve the situation in Latvia.
Main reasons: environmental pollution, harmful effects on wildlife, people’s erudition in the recycling processing of waste
Aim of the project: Our main aim is to change young people’s attitudes towards environmental problems in Latvia, especially in relation to recycling and reusing waste. We want to raise awareness and knowledge about waste reduction, sorting and giving a “second life” to old things.
Project activities. We also plan to actively participate in public awareness through social media and other digital channels.
Our team is made up of young people interested in environmental protection and active citizenship. Each member brings their own experience and skills to work together to promote sustainable lifestyles and environmental protection.
We hope that this project will contribute to lasting change in our community, improving the state of the environment and promoting responsible waste management.
If you are also concerned about the overload of waste in the sun, are creative and want to learn/teach others how to recycle old things and give them a new life,
